What is Osteopathy?

Human Spine

Osteopathy is a complementary medicine, diagnosing and treating medical disorders using manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue massage, medical acupuncture, joint mobilisation and manipulation, often referred to as 'clicking' or 'cracking'.

Osteopaths look at the body as a whole, not simply the injured or painful area. Through this identification of influencing and contributing factors, the body’s synergy increases.

Looking at lifestyle habits, physical movements, posture, leisure activities and pain reactivity; Osteopaths assess the body’s functional ability and any disruptions within this. Further assessment considerations include evaluating and comparing strength, flexibility, function and movement of muscles, joints and areas. Osteopathy considers physical and psychological factors regarding pain, as the mind and body work in harmony to process and maintain pain.

At the end of the 19th Century, the founder of Osteopathy - A. T. Still, believed that for the body to heal itself, conditions must be optimal. This is when Osteopathy was 'born'. Osteopathy believes that the body works optimally when we give it the right tools, including structurally, functionally and mentally. It is believed that balancing these achieves harmony within the body and therefore the 'unit' functions optimally.

Tasha graduated with a Masters degree in Osteopathy and a Diploma in Naturopathy from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2020 and has undertaken professional training in Medical Acupuncture and sports taping.

Prior to becoming an Osteopath, Tasha worked for a private ambulance and first aid company, alongside being a shift leader caring for the disabled, focusing on the long-term physical demands of the residents she cared for. As an Osteopath, Tasha retains a keen interest in working with those with physical and mentaldisabilities.

Patient-focus is always at the core of her treatments, using different approaches for every iRolo_And_Tiandividual, Tasha looks at the whole body, not only the injured or painful area, going in depth to find the cause as well as treating the symptoms.

Tasha grew up in a rural area just outside of Basingstoke, loves being outdoors and has always enjoyed various sports including Judo, Rugby and Swimming. Horse riding is Tasha’s main love, having ridden since the age of 4! When Tasha isn’t working, she can normally be found at the gym or at the stables spending time with her pony Rolo or out and about with her Golden Retriever, Tia.
